I. Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the student have:

a. determined the verbs in given sentences in Present, Past, and Future perfect tenses,

b. shared clear insight on the use of verbs in the perfect tenses and

c. constructed correct sentences using the Perfect tenses of verbs.

Present Perfect Tense

Present perfect tense describes an action that happened at an indefinite time in the past or that began in the past and continues in the present.This tense is formed by using has/have with the past participle of the verb. Most past participles end in -ed. Irregular verbs have special past participles that must be memorized.

Example

The researchers  have traveled to many countries in order to collect more significant data.

Women have voted in presidential elections since 1921.

Past Perfect Tense

Past perfect tense describes an action that took place in the past before another past action. This tense is formed by using had with the past participle of the verb.

By the time the troops arrived, the war had ended.

Future Perfect Tense

Future perfect tense describes an action that will occur in the future before some other action. This tense is formed by using will have with the past participle of the verb.

Example

By the time the troops arrive, the combat group will have spent several weeks waiting.

Exercises:

Directions:Underline the correct form of verb.

1. Dad ( have worked, have worked) for the Republic for three years.

2. When I (earned, had earned) five dollar, I opened a bank account.

3. My friend ( will have sailed, shall have sailed) before I reach the pier.

4. You (have earned, has earned) a promotion.

5. Donna (has dreamt,have dreamt) about frogs sitting in trees every          night this week.

Evaluation

Directions: Identify whether the verbs used in the sentences are in the Present, Past, and Future perfect tense. Write your answer on 1/4 sheet of paper.

1. They have not delivered the documents we need.

2. The elephant  had eaten all the hay so we feed it oats for a week.

3. After she had learned to drive,  Alice felt more independent.

4. They will have written their first exam by the time we get out of bed.

5. I have seen three of Shaw’s plays.

Assignment;

Construct at least(5) five sentences with the use of perfect tenses of the verb. Write it in a 1/2 crosswise sheet of paper.
